Graduate Research Assistant
(This is an unclassified – student hourly
help position)
The Department of Africology is seeking a Research
Assistant (RA) needed to assist with research project relating to the Youth and
Adult Rites of Passage & Transformation.
SUPERVISING
FACULTY: Professor J. Kirk
SALARY:
Commensurate with graduate level and experience (This is an unclassified, student hourly help position)
APPOINTMENT
PERIOD: June 1 2012 to February 1 2013 (reappointment
possible)
PERCENT
OF TIME: Approximately 10-15 hours per week
JOB
SUMMARY: The research assistant’s primary duties will
include 1) literature/media review 2) compiling an annotated bibliography 3)
organize Rites of Passage (ROP) data electronically 4) transcribe video
interviews with ROP alumni and transfer VHS to DVD’s 5) assist with identifying relevant persons
and scheduling interviews 6) assist with
planning ROP alumni conference 7) assist with grant application for ROP
conference.
OTHER
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS: Must be a graduate
student with a BA or MA or relevant experience and/or training in African,
African American and diaspora studies, cross-cultural studies, urban studies,
sociology, social work, anthropology are encouraged to apply. Preferred: Interviewing skills, research
experience, multimedia-expertise – i.e. knowledge of video, audio, editing and
transcription.
