Special Opportunity for Grad Students at the OAH/NCPH, April 20

A message regarding a special opportunity for graduate students at the annual meeting of the OAH/NCPH on April 20--
from PhD Student Joe Walzer--jbwalzer AT uwm DOT edu:

RSVP by 4/13/12 to  jbwalzer AT uwm DOT edu:

"The OAH Annual Meeting in Milwaukee is fast approaching! There will be many events to attend, but only one social event especially for Graduate Students to socialize and network with their graduate student colleagues - the Graduate Student Reception and Tavern Tour of Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood on Friday, April 20, from 5:00pm-11:00pm.

A significant nineteenth century industrial, German and Polish ethnic neighborhood, Riverwest is today home to many cultural organizations, collectively owned businesses, and large numbers of students – including many history graduate students.

A reception will be held at the meeting hall of the Milwaukee branch of the Polish Falcons of America – a Polish-American social organization that has had a branch in Riverwest for over ninety–five years. Beverages and a meal will be included with your ticket to this reception, highlighting some of the neighborhood’s unique flavors.

After the reception, there will be a walking tour of Riverwest, featuring a couple of the neighborhood’s distinct taverns. Drink purchases will be on your own during this portion of the event.

The deadline for preregistration through the OAH was April 1. This included bus transportation to and from the event. However, we would like to see as many graduate students from Milwaukee there as we can. If you are interested in attending the reception and have your own means of transportation, but were unable to sign up before the deadline, please contact Joe Walzer (jbwalzer AT uwm DOT edu) no later than Friday, April 13. The fee for the reception, without transportation included, will be $10. We need an accurate count for the caterer, so an RSVP to Joe before April 13 is necessary for this portion.

Otherwise, if you are unable to join us for the reception, you are more than welcome to meet us out at the tavern stops at any time. We will be making two stops, listed with rough times below:

Riverwest Public House (8:45-9:45)
815 E. Locust St.

Art Bar (10:00-11:00)
722 E. Burleigh St.
